Family Rafting
Put on your swim gear, pack a picnic lunch, and make a day of it as you float through the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area or the Lehigh River Gorge State Park, enjoying the scenery and watching the wildlife. You can choose from Family-style whitewater rafting or family-style leisure rafting.
What should I know about this activity?
All rafting trips include parking, shuttle transportation to and from the river, life jackets, paddles, and safety orientation.
Family-style leisure rafting trips range from two-hour paddles to all-day excursions and are for ages 3 and up. Open Memorial Day through mid-October, leisure rafting is available seven days a week, with trips going out all day from 10AM through 3PM (8AM trips are available on weekends). Please note that there is a four-person minimum to rent a raft (canoes and kayaks are available for smaller parties). Six and eight-person rafts are also available.
Family-style whitewater trips on the Lehigh River are for ages 4 and up and last 3 to 4 hours over an 8-mile trip. These trips are available daily from March through October (except on dam release dates) and from June 1 through September 6 include a free, all-you-can-eat BBQ lunch.
Semi-whitewater trips on the Upper Delaware provide a taste of whitewater, with occasional Class II & III rapids separated by miles of smooth water. These trips are for ages 5 and up. Choose from a five or ten mile trip and plan to spend four to six hours on the river. These trips do not require a guide and are available starting at 8AM on weekends and 9AM weekdays through 6PM. All rentals include paddles, life jackets and safety instructions/trip orientation. Boating instructions are available for the novice upon request. All river users must be able to swim and weigh a minimum of 40 lbs.
